Funeral services have been planned to honor a Florida deputy sheriff who was killed in the line of duty.

Deputy Sheriff John Robert Kotfila of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver near Tampa, Florida, on March 12. The woman who called police to report the crash told the media she believed the deputy had sacrificed himself to save her.

A wake will be held at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home in Falmouth on Tuesday, March 22 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Falmouth on Wednesday, March 23 at 11 a.m.

Kotfila’s father is a Mass. State Police sergeant and a former Falmouth Police Officer. One of his brothers is an officer at the Falmouth Police Department, and his maternal grandfather is a retired Mass. State Police Staff Sergeant.
