TAUNTON, MASS. (WHDH) - Emergency crews responded to a municipal plant in Taunton following reports of explosion late Friday morning.
According to the Taunton Fire Department, the incident happened at the Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant’s generation station on Somerset Avenue.
Officials said a large circuit breaker in a switch unit exploded, causing a fire. The fire is now out and the unit has been removed but the fire caused heavy smoke throughout the area.
Several people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
