BOSTON (WHDH) - A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for most of Massachusetts through late Wednesday evening.

The watch is in effect for Essex, Hampshire, Franklin, Middlesex, Hampden, and Worcester counties until 11 p.m. Berkshire County was under a watch until 8 p.m.

All of New Hampshire is also included in the severe thunderstorm watch.

Storms could fire off and bring small hail, wind gusts up to 70 mph, heavy rain, and frequent lightning, according to the 7Weather team.

The storm risk was mainly focused after 6 p.m. with the highest risk of severe storms between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. near and northwest of Interstate 495.

The risk of strong storms is lower near Boston and points to the south.
