PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Authorities say a student at Rhode Island College found an empty shell casing in a campus parking lot, just a day after another college in the state was evacuated when a worker found an ammunition casing.
Rhode Island College President Frank Sanchez said in a tweet Thursday the Providence campus remained open and there were no reports of shots fired or threats. But the discovery has prompted stepped up police patrols.
Sanchez says the campus is in the midst of final exams, so no classes were taking place.
Sanchez thanked the student who notified police about the shell casing and urged students to “remain vigilant.”
The Community College of Rhode Island’s Warwick campus was evacuated Wednesday after a bullet casing was found. That case remains under investigation.
