WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) - Police are investigating a shooting in Worcester that sent one man to the hospital.
Officers responding to a reported shooting in the area of 1 Maxell St. around 11:30 a.m. found a 19-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Worcester police said.
A close friend of the victim who lives nearby said he heard the altercation but assumed it was a car accident.
“We always hear car accidents. Always in that corner,” he said.
The man said that is when he saw his friend bleeding on his front staircase.
“I heard it and I literally came down the stairs and that’s when everybody was screaming,” he recalled.
Family members of the victim could be seen rushing to the scene and then to his bedside at nearby UMass Memorial Medical Center.
One man who identified himself as the victim’s uncle stayed behind at the scene and told 7NEWS the victim lives in the apartment complex where the incident took place.
The man was visibly distressed over this senseless act of violence.
“Over what? A bag of weed? A girl?” he asked. “Over a girl?”
For now, the victim’s twin brother is left sitting outside the apartment in a state of shock, hoping for the best.
Investigators have not commented on the motive of the shooting.
