Cold and bright today, but the clouds are determined to snuff out the sun in the coming days.

Typically high pressure means fair – or even totally sunny – weather, but as it drifts overhead tonight and tomorrow, it will act to spread the clouds across New England. For that reason, it’s sometimes called a "dirty high". And it will live up to its potential in the coming days.

Chilly tonight and tomorrow under that high. Without sun, the best we can hope for tomorrow is 40(ish) – no where near our normal high in the upper 40s. All the while, the warmer weather is building ahead of a developing storm system in the Plains.

Good time for a sidebar here. What we see playing out this week is almost a tip of the hand (on Mother Nature’s part) with respect to how the first part of winter may play out: cool shots and warm-ups….with the storms coming on the warm-ups. That’s right, for now we don’t see a sync-up with the cold and precipitation. Translated: no snow.

That’s not to say we couldn’t see flurries when these cold shots arrive. And furthermore, these cold shots have the potential to send us several degrees below normal. Yes, they have power, but no, it’s not staying power.

All of the above is reflected in the 7day, which carries us through the first week in December.

Far cry from past Decembers where we went right into the snow and cold.

Speaking of, Pats are in Denver with the cold and snowshowers…which is a good thing.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Pats!!!!!
