BURKE, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont ski resort that is currently under management by a federal receiver has proposed building a 30 million gallon pond for snowmaking.
The Caledonian-Record reports representatives from Burke Mountain Resort presented plans for the pond to the Burke Select Board Monday night. Resort officials have requested a $1 million Community Development Block Grant for the project. Resort general manager Kevin Mack says the grant requires a match.
The resort currently manages a 2.5 million gallon pond for snowmaking. Mack says a larger pond will make the resort more competitive.
The plan has received early support from select board members.
Mack says the resort will continue to invest in snowmaking upgrades under the guidance of federal receiver Michael Goldberg. Goldberg oversaw the opening of a new hotel at Burke.
