BOSTON (WHDH) - It was smooth sailing during the first morning of shuttle bus rides replacing the Orange Line.

MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak pointed commuters at the Forest Hills Station to their replacement buses and later rode in one of the buses to confirm that the first weekday of the month-long Orange Line shutdown was going well.

“I’ve gotten reports that traffic was relatively light, running pretty well,” Poftak said.

Shuttle buses navigated traffic without any major problems on the Southwest Corridor from Forest Hills to Copley Square.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, a regular Orange Line rider, took a city bus to Forest Hills where she planned to catch a shuttle bus to Copley and then the Green Line to City Hall.

“We just got here and the bus in the dedicated bus line got here pretty smooth,” said Wu, “so far so good.”

7NEWS rode along with Wu on the shuttle bus and then made the connection to the Green Line with her. The mayor also adjusted her schedule knowing the trip would take a little longer than usual.

“Not too much longer,” Wu said. “The Orange Line was always kind of a roll of the dice depending on how long it would take anyway.”

Wu emerged from the T at Government Center with her 45-minute commute closer to an hour today, but all things considered, she and her fellow riders appeared satisfied.
