It took a little shoving, but the warm front finally crossed through the Commonwealth today. Not surprisingly, it got hung up right across the border in NH. Portsmouth only managed to make 36° this afternoon!

Consider it a little bit of a push back from the cold high pressure system to the north.

We’re all colder tomorrow as chilly air is brought in with tonight’s wind. By morning, we should see temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s – so be mindful of any refreezing. Tons of sun will greet (and stay) with us tomorrow, but these days, that’s not saying much. Sun is at a premium in these dark days, but we’re at a turning point too.

The earliest sunset of the year is just days away on the 9th, then we actually gain 10 whole minutes by New Year’s Eve. WOW! Unfortunately, the sunrise is still getting later until early January, so the gains after the solstice (21st) are minimal.

We’re still in the hunt for a storm late Sunday into Monday. The weather maps still haven’t come together with a firm solution, but with marginal cold, I’m throwing my weight behind a wet storm at this point. Wouldn’t take much to get this thing cranking to produce a wet, heavy snow event, but right now the pieces aren’t all there. In any event, the pattern is active, just not bitterly cold.

Pete
