Doug Folsom’s screenplay ‘Over the Monster’ was a labor of love.
"It’s a wrongful conviction story. It’s a story about never giving up," Doug said.
So when he discovered it won best feature screenplay in the drama, fantasy, magical realism genre at the Woods Hole Film Festival last August, he felt like he had hit a home run.
His prize: having industry development executives review the screenplay.
"It’s really hard to get known and so it’s huge to be able to have them offer that to the winning screen writers," Doug said.
The founder of the festival said she would be in touch shortly about the next steps, but that’s when the problems began.
Doug says he sent several emails over the next few months, and didn’t hear back until December.
"Well ok, well at least I’m still on the radar. That’s good and they apologized," Doug said.
Hoping festival organizers would make good on their promise, Doug says he waited for several more months, but never heard back.
"You win so you think ‘Ok. Finally I’ll get people will listen’ you know, and then just nothing. It was just very frusturating," Doug said. "I know it’s a really good film festival, but somehow I fell through the cracks. I just don’t know why."
Determined to follow his character’s footsteps and not to give up, Doug decided to add a twist to the plot and called Solve It 7.
We reached out to the founder of the film festival who got in touch with Doug just hours later and set up two meetings for him during the 2015 film festival.
"I couldn’t have asked for better meetings. That wouldn’t have been able to happen without you guys helping out so I really appreciate it," Doug said.
