As a plumber, Craig Adam is used to being the one who people call for help. This past January, during one of our many winter storms, Craig says he received one of those calls for help from the owner of Krueger Flatbread in Haverhill.
"He had no heat at all. The restaurant – he wasn’t going to be able to open, so I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll be right over,’" Craig said.
Craig says he gave the restaurant owner an estimate and went over to fix the problem.
"The part wasn’t in, but I used something I could temporarily hook up for him – just so he could open up his restaurant," Craig explained. "When the new part came in, I went back, put it in for him, and I told him there was some wiring issues, so he said fix it. We fixed it."
With the heating system back up and running, Craig stopped by the restaurant a few days later and dropped off the bills totaling $2,000. That’s when he says the problems began.
"He just wouldn’t pay me. I’ve sent him other bills. I’ve tried calling him," Craig said.
With no payment and nowhere else to turn, Craig The Plumber decided to take the plunge and call Solve It 7.
"I just want what’s mine. I just want my money that’s owed to me," Craig said.
We went to work, first talking to the restaurant’s owner on the phone – then in person when we stopped by his Haverhill restaurant. The owner told us that the reason he didn’t pay was because he felt like he was being over-charged. Craig disagrees and says the $2000 was a fair price, but the two sides agreed to try and work out a deal. And they did.
"He owed me $2,000 and we settled on $1,700," Craig said.
An agreement that put an end to this nearly year-long ordeal.
"If it wasn’t for you, I probably wouldn’t have got anything at all. I’m very grateful to you and what you do. You get people what is owed to them," Craig said.
