Some have called Patriots star Rob Gronkowski a piece of work, but now he’s become a work of art.
A local artist turned the tight end into a masterpiece.
Brian Fox was commissioned by the Gronkowski family to paint a picture of the five talented brothers.
“He’s a great subject, the guy is an incredible athlete, so any athlete is going to catch my attention, but he’s just on another level,” Fox said.
Fox is from Somerset but he is nationally known for the realistic portraits of athletes and celebrities he paints.
He’s painted Rob Gronkowski twice, and Gronk’s father was so impressed, he commissioned fox to paint a third, featuring Rob, and his four brothers.
“There’s five of them, and these guys are incredibly talented. I’m jaw-dropped; these guys play all these professional sports,” Fox said.
The painting is called “Bro-power” and was a year in the making. It’s really five paintings in one.
“Being chosen is always an honor. Getting to meet all those guys, and talk to them, it’s one of my favorite projects right now,” Fox said.
It was unveiled at Christmas, although the Gronkowski’s had hoped to have it for Christmas 2013.
“I was nervous. I’m always nervous because you want your clients to be happy. It was a great reaction. I got a great note from him Gordy that said ‘great work. Worth the wait,’” Fox said.
Fox has been a lifelong Patriots fan and thinks they’ll do very well in the playoffs.
