A popular Davis Square restaurant and music club is closing its doors and hundreds joined in a special celebration Sunday to say goodbye.

Johnny D’s Uptown Restaurant and Music Club has been an iconic spot in Davis Square since 1969 and it announced its closing back in July. To send it off in style, musicians performed a concert in the club before leading a New Orleans-style funeral parade through the square.

"Johnny D’s greatness is a culmination of all of us. We thank you all for being the best customers and supporters ever and we look forward to celebrating and bidding a proper farewell with you," according to a statement on the restaurant’s website ahead of the parade.

The building will now be converted into a mixed use building with commercial space and several residential units.
