SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) – Police are warning women in Somerville to be on alert near the Union and Porter Square areas after a series of late night attacks by possibly the same man.

Three assaults have been reported in the past three months in those areas. The most recent was this past Sunday.

“I walk alone a lot. I'm independent but it's scary my independence can be questioned,” said one woman.

Investigators released a sketch of the alleged attacker, and officers sent a text alert to let people know what happened.

Police say Sunday night a 45-year-old woman was indecently assaulted in Union Square. Just after the New Year, a 28-year-old woman was attacked in Porter Square and another in November.

It's unclear how the man approached these women but he apparently ran after each assault. Officers want women to make sure they're taking steps to protect themselves.

Police say if you can, try not to walk alone. Don't keep headphones in and always have your phone with you or out so if anybody were to happen, you could quickly dial 911.
