BOSTON (WHDH) - Matilda The Musical has made its grand entrance at the Boston Opera House and we got the chance to go behind the scenes.

We also met the stars of the show – three little girls with BIG personalities!

Savannah Grace Elmer, Lily Brooks O’Briant, and Sarah McKinley Austin rotate playing the lead character in the national tour.

We caught up with them at the Boston Public Library… an appropriate setting, given Matilda’s love for reading!

While they certainly share the energy of any regular nine or ten year old, the girls’ childhoods are unique.

Savannah, Lily, and Sarah are homeschooled, as their title role in the National Tour has them traveling year round!

We wondered how the girls memorized such difficult Russian speech and mathematical terms.

“When I watched the show last night, all the lines, all the vocabulary…how do you remember that stuff?”

“You just have to trust yourself with what you know,” said Savannah.

Paula Brancati plays Matilda’s teacher, Miss Honey, and has a great rapport with all three Matildas.

So, does she give the young stars advice?

“No, they give me advice!” Brancati laughs. “They were like, you got a get a steamer. I thought they meant to steam my clothes…No. they were like for your voice, honey.”

Helping out their co-stars, and having a little fun too.

While they’re here in Boston, the girls decided on some locations for relaxation: the science museum and aquarium.

Sarah was quick to add she wants time to “just hang” as well.

The show will be at the Boston Opera House through June 26th.
