SPENCER, Mass. (WHDH) – A seven-year-old child will be charged as a “delinquent child” after stabbing another child with a pencil.
The assault took place at the Wire Village School in Spencer back in October during recess. According to the Spencer Police Department, the victim was also a seven-year-old.
The pencil penetrated the victim’s rectum as he was laying on the ground. The victim required hospitalization and two surgeries.
"Obviously the victim, that’s terrible what happened. The child who did it, there’s got to be something seriously wrong for him to do something like that," Lori Bowen, a concerned parent, said.
The complaint against the suspect was filed on Dec. 30., after a lengthy investigation.
Some people say the charges are too much for a young child.
“Criminal charges against a minor child that young is shocking to a lot of people but he needs some kind of help and probably the only way for him to get it is for the charges to go forth," Bowen said.
The suspect will be arraigned on an assault charge in Worcester Juvenile Court on Jan. 21.
