Sports Authority has announced that it will close all of its stores nationwide after filing for bankruptcy.

The decision to shutter its more than 450 stores will affect 12 stores in Massachusetts.

Stores in Braintree, Danvers, Framingham, Holyoke, Hyannis, Mansfield, Marlborough, North Milford, Somerville, Westwood, Watertown, and Woburn will be closed as a result.

In April, the sporting goods retail chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, saying it would close just 140 stores and two distribution centers.

Now, however, the company has notified bankruptcy courts that it is not able to reorganize. Instead, the company will pursue a sale instead, closing all of its stores in the coming months.
