69 degrees on Christmas eve, and 77 degrees earlier this month, so it makes perfect sense that as we roll into the first day of Spring, a snowstorm may be on the doorstep. Only in New England right?
Before we talk about snow, how about that wacky day yesterday? Temps hit the low to mid 60s, then thunderstorms with gusty winds and small hail were scattered about in the afternoon. Those showers/storms formed thanks to all the cold air aloft. You certainly felt that cold air aloft too. Once those showers and storms produced gusty winds, temps dropped from the 60s, into the 40s.
While not a carbon copy, today will feature a similar flavor with a mix of sun and clouds and afternoon pop-up scattered showers. Some of these showers will contain gusty wind and small hail. Thunder is not out of the question, but the storms shouldn’t be as intense as a few were yesterday. Temps today also run in the low 50s instead of the low to mid 60s.
Cold air works in here over the weekend with highs near 40 tomorrow and lows Sunday morning in the teens and lower 20s. You need the cold before you can get the snow.
Weekend storm… Timing of it appears to be late Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. There are some questions to the exact track still, but the potential is certainly there for 6"+ of snow where it’s all snow. If we do get a direct hit, strong winds along the coast will also be an issue, although coastal flooding should be more toward the minor end of things vs. major since the storm move quick. Since it’s quick hitter, by Monday afternoon, partly sunny skies are likely. In regards to the storm, while 6-12" is a possibility, I am leaving the window open for lower amounts if the storm is farther east or if more rain mixes in. So it’s not set in stone, however, if this weekend was your weekend to put the snow blower away for the season and tune up the lawnmower… better give it another week.
