Wow.  Tricky forecast, and crazy spring snow today!  It was almost just as tricky to measure the snow as it was to forecast for it, because we were getting melting at the same time as the snow was falling… Then the powerful spring sunshine cooked the snow later this afternoon.  Snow totals ranged from 1-2" for Cape Cod to 3-5" around Boston and N. Plymouth County, to up to 6-7" in the Merrimack Valley and N. Worcester County (Lunenburg measured 7")!  Snow on the 2nd day of spring; not exactly rare (especially in New England), but really not ideal.

As I mentioned though, the sunshine was able to laser-blast much of that snow away this afternoon.  Since the first day of winter (Dec. 20th), the Noon sun angle has gotten about 23° higher!  That’s significant.  The power of the sunshine making it hard for spring snow to survive.  Plus, we’re in for some milder temperatures in the next couple of days.

Overnight tonight, clear skies will allow for temperatures to drop back into the 20s for most.  That means, with all of the melting, what is wet now will likely refreeze by morning.  Please be mindful of this!  We start Tuesday with sunshine and will see temps climb into the mid to upper 40s.  Temps like this are very "normal" for this time of year, so we’ll call tomorrow a "seasonable" day.  BUT two weeks ago it was 77°!!!  Where is THAT kind of warm-up???  It doesn’t look like it’s in the cards for us for a bit.  We have an up-and-down week to get through this week, with a couple of shots at some showers.

The cold air gets pushed north through tomorrow and Wednesday, but the front is not far away.  Colder air sags south into the area for Thursday, and possibly brings some scattered showers.  There could be another boost in temperatures in store for Friday, but the warm-up could also get the kabosh.  So, we’ll just have to wait and see.  However, whether it’s warm or not – it will be a wet day on Friday, as rain showers stick around through the better part of the day.

Let’s just cross our fingers that today was Old Man Winter’s last gasp!!  Have a great week.  – Breezy
