A Springfield man charged with driving while high on heroin when he struck and killed a father and daughter out for a motorcycle ride in Easthampton is headed to court where he is expected to plead guilty.

The Northwest District Attorney’s Office said 45-year-old James Ainsworth is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Ainsworth previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two counts of motor vehicle homicide in connection with the crash last August that took the lives of 62-year-old Edward McGrath, of Holyoke, and his daughter and passenger, 29-year-old Brittany McGrath, of Brooklyn, New York.

Prosecutors say Ainsworth was on heroin and passed out when his SUV crossed the centerline and struck the McGraths motorcycle head-on on Route 5.

Ainsworth’s attorney could not be reached.
