RIO DE JANEIRO (WHDH) — A Massachusetts man will have a special honor at the Olympic Opening Ceremony this Friday when he carries the flag of his native Haiti in the parade of nations.

Asnage Castelly, 37, was born in Haiti and now lives in Springfield. He was named to Haiti’s wrestling team earlier this year and hopes to bring home a medal.

“That’s always my dream, to inspire the next generation, the next Haitian who we could see in the Olympics,” said Castelly.

Castelly is the first wrestler to ever represent Haiti at the Olympics and he told 7’s Nancy Chen that he had to lobby the country for years to do so.
