SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (WHDH) - People in Springfield are weighing in as the state considers passing a bill that would change how sex education is taught in schools.

The Healthy Youth Act would create requirements that school districts would have to follow, if they decide to offer sex education.

Courses would be required to offer information on both contraceptives and abstinence.

Schools would not be required to offer sex education under the new bill and parents would be able to opt their children out of taking the courses.
