WINTHROP, MASS. (WHDH) - A stabbing in Winthrop left at least one person wounded Sunday night, according to officials.

Police Chief Terence Delehanty said officers were called o Shirley Street between Crystal Cove Street and Moore Street around at 8 p.m. to find a man with a stab wound.

The victim was promptly taken to a local hospital, with no other updates on his condition given by officials.

As an investigation got underway Sunday night, officials asked motorists and pedestrians to avoid the surrounding area as police detectives continued to collect evidence.

No additional information has been released. Though investigation is ongoing, police do not believe there was any danger posed to the public.
