Well, the weekend's here. We're facing down hotter temperatures and looking ahead to the humidity.
Saturday's the day we step into the sticky air. Subtly at first, but very apparent. This humidity may also fire up a few random thunderstorms. Some will last only a few minutes, others up to 20 minutes. These are what we call airmass thunderstorms. They follow a cycle of formation, maturation and decay. Typical lifetime of 30-45 min. total. (The 20 min. is where it passes over you.)
Sunday is the hotter of the two days (sans storms), but with a slight sea breeze in Boston, I think this will be the odd man out for making a heat wave in the city.
Monday is the fiery hot one. Likely to have Heat Advisories for parts of Southern New England. The afternoon highs will climb to the low 90s and with dewpoints nudging 70 or better, it will feel like 100-102 degrees! Think that's hot and soupy? Check out this tweet:
Jaw-dropping dewpoint of 90°?? It apparently happened. #neverseenthat https://t.co/1JcScSQ2Df

Long range, we're bathing in heat and humidity. In this kind of pattern, relief is only found in sea breezes and the occasional thunderstorm. Even then, both can act to increase the humidity, in addition to only lowering the temperature slightly. Fronts are out of the picture until perhaps late next week, and even then, the signals are mixed on relief. (But for the hot weather haters, there is some glimmer of hope.)
Bottom line: even though summer's on a the wane, summer heat is on the rise.
Be well and have a safe weekend.
