CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire attorney general’s office is hiring four more prosecutors to help with a growing homicide caseload.

WMUR-TV reports there have been 28 homicides so far this year, seven more than in 2018. The most ever recorded was in 1991, when there were 32.

MacDonald said New Hampshire averages about 20 homicides per year. His office has 14 prosecutors in the homicide division.

He said an average case takes about a year and a half to work through the system from the time of an arrest until a verdict at trial.
