BOSTON, Mass. (AP) — The Massachusetts attorney general’s office is suing a law firm, alleging it accepted more than $90,000 in illegal kickbacks for recommending at least 800 physical injury clients to a pharmacy.
Attorney General Maura Healey alleges in the lawsuit filed Friday that Keches Law Group P.C. “engaged in unfair and deceptive acts” under the state’s consumer protection law.
Keches Law Group said in a statement that the firm is “surprised and disappointed” by the lawsuit.
An investigation into Injured Workers Pharmacy dispensing practices led Healey’s office to investigate.
The firm cooperated with that unrelated investigation and “immediately terminated its commercial relationship,” said Thomas F. Maffei, of Sherin and Lodgen LLP, counsel to Keches Law Group, in a statement. “There was no quid pro quo, and to their knowledge no client was harmed.”
