BOSTON (WHDH) - State Police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a State Police cruiser on Monday.

Around 7 a.m. Tuesday, State Police received calls reporting a man walking on the Mass Pike westbound in Newton ripping pages from a Bible and throwing them into traffic.

State Police responded to the area and the man ran away down train tracks.

Police found the man on Craft Street in Newton and determined he had recently been hospitalized. EMS was called to the scene.

Troopers recognized the man as a suspect seen on camera as having stolen the cruiser from a Department on Transportation maintenance facility in South Boston.

Police said that determination was supported by statements made by the suspect after his arrest.

The man was transported to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital for evaluation.

His name is not being released at this time.

It is unclear whether he will face charges.
