PLAINFIELD, Mass. (WHDH) — State Police said a 9-year-old girl is dead after she was dragged by and then struck by her school bus in Plainfield.

Officials said the girl was dropped off at her stop on South Central Street. As she exited, police said she was not fully clear from the bus and the door closed. As the bus driver drove away, the girl was dragged for a short distance before police said she was struck. The bus then stopped.

The girl, who has not been identified, was a student at the school in the area. Several other children were on the bus at the time.

The male bus driver is being interviewed by State Police.
