A State Police dog named Kato is the hero of the weekend after rescuing a child in Rutland.
On Friday afternoon, Rutland Police requested the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police after receiving a report of a missing child.
The boy had been missing for about an hour when the State Police arrived on scene.
Sgt. Ray Jones and Kato arrived on the scene. Kato acquired a scent from clothing that staff at the child’s school were able to provide and began tracking the child through the woods.
Eventually, Kato backtracked and located the boy shortly after.
The child had minor injuries and was evaluated before being reunited with school staff.
