A volunteer firefighter was charged with arson after a forest fire in Stoddard, according to New Hampshire state police.

David Plante, 31, of Stoddard was arrested and charged with one count of arson following the investigation into the fire. 

The fire burned 190 acres and prompted the voluntary evacuation of 17 homes.

Plante refused the services of a bail commissioner. He is being held at the Cheshire County House of Corrections without bail.

Plante will be arraigned in the Cheshire County Superior Court in Keene at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

At this time, investigators do not believe additional suspects are involved. The investigation is ongoing and authorities anticipate additional charges will be forthcoming. 

Law enforcement officials have asked anyone with information regarding the Stoddard forest fires to call New Hampshire State Police Headquarters at 271-3636.
