Another storm is affecting the region today but it’s a storm only in the academic sense. After Tuesday, it’s pretty tough to blog about snow, wind and travel troubles but it doesn’t take much snow to foul up someone’s day. Thankfully, we don’t have that much on the way.

Our little storm is passing through the region today and will end up in the Gulf of Maine this evening. Once it reaches the Gulf of Maine it will intensify and pound the Midcoast & Downeast Maine with a major snowstorm but for us here in southern New England it will only be a glancing blow of snow. For us, we’ll have patchy light snow & flurries through the day that tapers late this afternoon. There will be one more batch of light snow along the immediate coast well after midnight & into early Saturday morning. For most cities/towns (including Boston) it’s 1-2″ of snow but that 2nd batch of snow the totals will be closer to 2-4″ (Essex county). The *special* map in our Maps section shows snowfall potential.

Both weekend days are snowflake-free but Sunday is the better day for outdoor activities with light winds. Saturday will feature northwest wind between 15-25mph keeping wind chills near zero for much of the day.

As we look into next week, another storm heads this way (bigger than today) with more snow in the forecast. Snow arrives between 4-7am and continues for the entire day. The track is not locked so I don’t have numbers for snowfall but a plowable snow is likely.

Enjoy the Superbowl–Pats 21-17.
