While we haven't needed the A/C too often this summer, last night was not one of the overnights that gave the electric bills a break. With a soupy air mass in place, temps only slid back to the lower 70s for most towns as dew points held near 70.
The steamy air hangs around today with highs reaching the middle to upper 80s. As a cold front cuts into that humid air, scattered showers and thunderstorms fire late morning, through the evening from northwest to southeast. North and west of Boston, the best chance for a shower or thunderstorm is late morning-early afternoon. Around Boston, it's lunchtime/early afternoon and down through Southeast Mass, the chance for storms is highest mid afternoon-early evening. While the temperature profile and wind profile of the atmosphere isn't conducive to widespread severe storms, a locally strong storm with gusty winds can't be ruled out. The main threat with any storm will be locally heavy rain given the amount of moisture in the atmosphere. With storms most widespread and longer lasting over Southeast Mass late today and early this evening, a few towns may experience street flooding/poor drainage area flooding if a quick 1-2" falls within a short period of time. With this in mind, the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from Boston to the Cape. Not all areas see flooding rains, but the potential is there for the few towns that see longer lasting downpours. Rain will be south of Fenway by first pitch tonight.
Humidity lowers tonight, and it's a refreshing change for tomorrow. Thursday features more clouds than sun, a spot shower and temps that range from near 70 at the coast to mid to upper 70s inland. The best chance for showers tomorrow is actually in the evening/overnight hours with a wave of instability running by.
Friday-Sunday… looking good so far for the weekend people! Humidity still in check Friday and Saturday, although it does go up a bit by Sunday.
