READING, Mass. (WHDH) — A tree fell into the front yard of a Reading home Saturday, and missed Pamela Higgins and her daughter by a few feet.

“All of a sudden I heard something bad happening. I looked out and the tree was going,” said Higgins. “I made her run up the stairs real quickly, once I realized the rest of the tree had fallen I grabbed Julie and the dog and we ran across the street.”

It happened just after a burst of strong storms came through.

“It was right after the storm started, so I think the wind, and it was unstable to begin with,” said Higgins.

A large part of the tree toppled earlier in the day.

“The wind must have knocked the rest of it right into the house,” said Higgins.

In the still searing heat, crews cleared out the fallen tree. The Higgins were thankful this close brush with the weather left them with just minimal damage to their home.

“We’re glad everyone is okay and the main part of the home is okay,” said Higgins.

There was some damage to the front porch and the tree also knocked out power for a short time. It has since been restored.
