SAUGUS, MASS. (WHDH) - A stuck gas pedal may be to blame for a driver losing control and crashing into a Macy’s location in Saugus.

The driver’s wife said he dropped her off at the Square One Mall on Monday so she could go to Macy’s. A short time later, an employee found her and said her husband had crashed through the glass door.

“I heard a big bang, I come running out and there was a guy that backed right into the doo,” said witness Brian Kelly. “I ran out the door and I opened up the passenger side and I put it in park and shut the key off.”

Kelly said the driver wasn’t hurt and just had a scratch on his hand. He had a dog in the backseat who was okay too.

“I didn’t even think about it, just did it. I just wanted to make sure he wasn’t hurt,” Kelly added

According to the driver’s wife, the gas pedal got stuck and the driver tried to use the brake, but couldn’t stop the car. No one was coming in or out of the glass doors when the crash happened.

“It’s a very busy Macy’s store and there are people coming in and out of that door all day long,” Kelly said. “They were very lucky that not one person got hurt.”

Saugus police say the driver is not facing any charges.
