PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Pope Francis has gotten a little love from Providence College.

The Roman Catholic college says junior Joe Day of Rehoboth, Mass., went to see Pope Francis at the Vatican during Wednesday morning's Papal Audience. Day, who is spending the fall semester in Rome, reached out to give the Pope a white skull cap he had brought for him. The zucchetto had a note inside that said, "Providence College loves Pope Francis."

The Pope took the hat, read the note, put it on his head, then handed the hat back to Day.

In April, Pope Francis hugged and kissed an 8-year-old Rhode Island boy in St. Peter's Square after Easter Mass. The father of the boy, who has cerebral palsy, teaches theology at Providence College.

The college affiliated with the Dominican Friars has nearly 4,000 students.
