Without a doubt, it has been a warm first 18 days of September. In fact, it’s only trailing the warmest September (1983) on record, by about a degree.
While many have welcomed the seemingly endless summer, with the kids back in school, apple picking season here, football back in action, fall flowers awaiting to be displayed, and pumpkin spiced everything back on the shelves, some will say it’s about time we start feeling a bit cooler by now. Just give it one more day.
With winds out of the south today, it’ll be another warm one and a bit of a muggy one. With that humidity back in place, it was easy for fog to form early this morning. The fog is locally dense and will yield to some sun by mid to late morning. That sun will warm us back into the lower 80s this afternoon. Clouds do increase late in the day again, signaling an approaching cold front.
That front sweeps through tomorrow morning with a few spotty early to mid morning showers and clouds before midday/afternoon sun returns. Don’t expect a lot of rain with this system, and not all towns will see a shower. For the towns that do, it won’t be a good watering for the lawn as rain totals are paltry. Although we start mild tomorrow, the afternoon features steady temps in the lower 70s and an increasing breeze from the north.
Next week features a more seasonal pattern, and even below average temperatures along the coast with an onshore breeze. That means highs in the 60s to near 70 for most days, although Thursday will be warmer, especially away from the coast. I don’t see much rain in the forecast through the next 7-10 days, so if you’re trying to regrow some grass… you’ll have to water. We’ll watch a storm to our south closely mid-week, but as of now, most of the moisture looks to hold just off our coastline as high pressure appears strong enough to hold it south and eventually east of us. We’ll keep you updated on that one.
Until then, have a great weekend and goooooooooo Pats!!!!!!!!!
