Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for other people, and never seems to get the recognition they deserve?
This week at 6 a.m. 7News is highlighting people who do wonderful things for others.
We asked viewers to tell us about someone they thought deserved a Summer Shout Out, and one of them lives in Wakefield.
At 19 years old, Patrick Sullivan took on a task that no one else would.
"Patrick felt that the parade needed to be there for kids who, like him, lived in Wakefield and they should be able to experience it," said family friend Richard Robinson.
In 2013, the town’s Fourth of July Parade, which is the largest one in the state, was canceled after the committee in charge of it disband it.
Determined not to let anyone rain on the parade again, Patrick decided to take action.
"He devoted a lot of time to it and after a two-year absence, we brought the parade back this year," said Robinson.
Robinson, who is Patrick’s scout master and later worked on the committee, said some people in town had their doubts about the parade’s comeback.
"I think a lot of people expected that with a 19-year-old kid leading the parade, we were gonna get something, but it wouldn’t be like how it was in the past," said Robinson. "Those people really didn’t know Pat Sullivan. If he was bringing the parade back, it was coming back in all its grandeur."
It was a day many won’t forget.
"Everybody was so thankful and so grateful to have the parade back," said Robinson.
It was a job well done by a young man who, Robinson believed, deserved a Summer Shoutout.
"This is something he did from the heart and truly believed in, and he did a great job on it."
Patrick will enjoy a special two-night stay at the Hermitage Club in Westover, Vermont.
