While much of the summer has been back and forth, in and out of summer's warmth, we finally have some heat with some staying power. However, with the heat and humidity, we do occasionally deal with thunderstorms, and this afternoon/evening is one of those occasions.
As a cold front tracks through here. the thunderstorms that are across western New England as of 3pm, will continue their journey eastbound through 9pm. Storms likely reach Worcester County in the 4-5pm time frame and perhaps the Boston area by 6-7pm. The most widespread and strongest storms will be outside 495, especially in the Worcester Hills to Southwestern New Hampshire and points west. Inside 495, late-day/evening storms are more of the scattered variety, leaving some towns dry. Again, while widespread severe weather is not expected, a few of the storms may be potent with strong wind gusts, as well as torrential rain and frequent cloud to ground lightning. The highest risk for an isolated severe storm is from the Worcester Hills, through the Connecticut River Valley and far western Mass. Once the sun sets, and daytime heating wanes, so will the storms, leaving most of the overnight hours dry.
Tomorrow, we're on the other side of the "cold" front. Yes, what moves through tonight is a cold front, however, behind it there's not much cold air. In fact, tomorrow, highs range for the mid 80s to near 90! While it's hot again, it's much less humid with dew points going from the 70s today to the mid 50s tomorrow afternoon.
Same theme goes for the weekend. Highs are well into the 80s, but humidity stays somewhat in check, allowing for some nice summah weather. Much of the weekend is dry too, although, I can't rule out a pop-up storm on Saturday afternoon. Best chance for that is across Western and Central New England, but I won't rule it out here in Southern New England either. Let's call it a 20% chance of that.
Have a good night and stay cool and stay hydrated!
