It’s a cold, frosty start to this weekend as temperatures for many towns are down into the 20s this morning.  Those 20s transition into the 30s this afternoon and sunshine yields to increasing clouds from east to west.  With those clouds, enough moisture starts to work in that flurries and snow showers break out through the day.  First over Southeast Mass this morning-midday, then farther northwest later in the afternoon.   With temperatures generally above freezing this afternoon, roads should fair ok.

Although it’s not a big storm, moisture continues to work in tonight with more periodic light snow breaking out.  As temps run near freezing and below, a few slick spots are possible tonight as a coating to an inch of snow drops (few towns may catch closer to 2″).  With a wind out of the northeast, coastal Plymouth County and the Cape may change/mix with some rain showers at times.

Snow shower activity lingers into Sunday, with most of it in the morning.  A few slick spots early should subside as temps warm into the mid to upper 30s by midday.

Monday and Tuesday are fairly quiet days, although some patchy drizzle is possible Tuesday with patches of freezing drizzle possible deep inland.

The next big storm arrives just in time for Christmas Eve.  Yes, it’s a nasty storm, but it’s a rain-maker for us.  The height of the storm hits Wednesday afternoon-Wednesday night as 1-2″ of rain pelts down with gusty southeast winds pushing 40-50mph at the coast/Cape.   The surge in mild air may even allow for embedded thunderstorms in the evening as temperatures surge into the mid 50s to near 60!  So much for a white Christmas huh?  We’ll also watch for minor coastal flooding as tides are astronomically higher.

While Santa need Rudolph’s red nose to navigate New England Christmas Eve, we won’t need the windshield wipers anymore on Christmas Day to navigate the roads.  Sun returns for Christmas itself with temps still running in the 40s to near 50.

Enjoy the weekend and the holidays to come!
