So, it’s April. Snow in the forecast this time of year is frustrating. But, as we know, this is how weather in New England is! Full of surprises.
Details on Sunday morning snow:
This is a fast and furious storm, which means that the snow only falls between about 5am-10am. I have a broad area of 1-3" of snow accumulation painted across most of MA, but there is the potential for isolated areas to get 4-6". We’re talking VERY isolated here… but it’s tough to forecast where those convective bands set up. Often times, higher elevation will add to the lift and so I do have my sights set on the Worcester Hills for higher amounts, but with that said, it could be elsewhere. It’s much like forecasting where isolated thunderstorms pop up in the summertime. Most of the snow accumulation will have a hard time surviving on paved surfaces, but a slushy/greasy morning on the roads should be expected. This won’t be the only thing making driving difficult though!
Really the biggest impact here is with the wind. We’re talking VERY strong winds out of the NW 25-35mph, with gusts 50-65mph. Strongest winds will be along the S. Coast, Cape and islands. So, tree damage and power outages are expected, especially in that area. Because of the strong winds and the snow in the morning, there’s the potential for blizzard-like conditions… When you see the word "blizzard" think "blowing snow," with "wind" being the big component – rather than loads of snow. White-out conditions are expected tomorrow morning in some spots, but again, it’s hard to pinpoint where those spots will be.
Hey, if you sleep in past 10am – you’re good to go. Well, kinda. The winds keep kicking into the afternoon making our temps in the mid 30s will feel like temps in the 20s. BUT THERE WILL BE PARTIAL SUNSHINE. So, that’s something, right?!
Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for 3am-11am (blowing snow and possibly slick roads):

High Wind Warning is in effect from 5am-7pm:

There is another round of snow on the way for Monday. Maybe 2-4" on the way. This is an early estimate. Either way, don’t put away that winter coat just yet. Hang in there. – Breezy
