Holiday weekend plans? Don’t worry about the forecast. It’s completely intact…and on your side. Deep blue skies, cool mornings and warming afternoons, and brilliant foliage coming on strong in all parts of New England.
What’s not to love?
Oh, you want warm weather. Well, that’s what the "warming afternoon" part is all about. We’ll be near 70 tomorrow with a surge deep into the 70s for Columbus Day and Tuesday.
Thing of it is, this may be our last stand of warm weather for a while (note I didn’t say for good…record highs are in the 80s through Halloween). Chilly – OK, maybe cold – air is building in the latter half of next week, and the timing brings that straight into the Northeast next weekend. I know it’s early and the timing may change, but there is clear evidence that below normal temperatures will favor the Eastern United States.
Which leads me to my latest conundrum in the (very) extended forecast: why isn’t the fingerprint of El Nino all over our weather pattern? Certainly the warm Pacific waters are well established (and documented), but the signal from that warm pool has been weak or non-existent across North America. Seems like we’re just falling into that same pattern of warm West/cool East that we’ve seen in the past two winters.
Time will tell of course, but I have my doubts about how and if El Nino will get the upper hand and steer us through the winter here in New England. Of bigger consequence is the cold pool of water in the North Atlantic. How will that play out? Is Europe in for a brutally cold winter? Stay tuned.
Enjoy the holiday weekend and be safe.
