WESTFORD, MASS. (WHDH) - A Barre man has been arrested after he led State Troopers on a multi-city chase and hit one with his car.
Shortly before 1 a.m. on September 1, State Police responded to reports of a yellow Honda Accord driving erratically on Route 495 South in Methuen. Troopers followed the car and stopped the driver in the left lane of 495 South in Lowell. The driver, Eric Duffy, 34, of Barre, didn’t listen to the Trooper’s instructions, restarted his engine and sped away.
Troopers followed Duffy to Haffner’s Gas Station in Westford, where he got out of his car and quickly got back in before a Taser attempt could reach him. Duffy reversed his car, backed into a cruiser, then drove forward, hitting a Trooper on foot and causing him to roll onto the Honda’s hood and slide off.
Duffy then continued to lead Troopers on a chase down 495 North until they boxed Duffy in. Duffy then rear-ended the cruiser in front of Duffy. After a struggle with Troopers, they arrested Duffy.
Duffy was transported to Lowell General Hospital for evaluation, as was a Trooper who struggled with him. The Trooper hit on foot at the gas station was treated at Emerson Hospital for minor injuries.
Duffy faces nine offenses including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
