NEWTON, Mass. (WHDH) — Newton police received a 911 call from a Dunkin Donuts on Needham Street after an armed robbery and are looking for help to track down the suspect.
“Had a gun shown, pointed it at two employees there, had them get down to the ground,” said Lt. Bruce Apotheker, Newton Police Dept.
According to investigators, the man who appeared to be armed with a pistol busted through the back door and threatened workers to hit the floor or he'd shoot. He grabbed cash from the register plus another box with bigger bills and took off.
There have been nearly two dozen armed robberies at Dunkin Donuts around eastern Massachusetts including Norwood and Roslindale since March.
Authorities are trying to determine if they are connected.
Detectives are working with employees to be on the alert and reminding them what to do if a weapon is involved.
“Never try to be a hero, when any weapon is shown whether it's a gun, knife, anything. Don't try to be a hero, give them what they want. Try to get the best description so we can catch them at a later time,” Apotheker said.
