A man was arrested after police said he smashed his car through the window of a church in Hudson, New Hampshire.

Police said the 47-year-old driver from Nashua was drunk when he crashed through the Hudson Community Church at around 5 a.m. Monday. The SUV went through the front and smashed the church’s large window. He was not hurt.

Parishioners were on the scene to help clean up Monday. Church Business Manager Frank Sousa said no one was hurt in the crash.

"If you’re going to have a building smashed in, do it when no one is in it," said Sousa.

Parishioner Jeanne Ulliani said Mondays are when families in need come to the church for food and the crash happened just hours before they arrived.

"Praise the lord that it wasn’t a few hours later because there would’ve been casualties," said Ulliani.

Insurance should cover the damage, but parishioners say they may need donations from other churches to help pay the deductible.
