German table tennis star and two-time medalist Timo Boll was selected by his peers as their flag bearer for the Opening Ceremonies.
Boll, who helped Germany win a bronze medal in the men’s team competition during the London 2012 Games, is already the fifth table tennis athlete to be selected as a flag bearer for the Rio Games. He joins Liu Jia of Austria, Ian Lariba of the Philippines, Olufunke Oshonaike of Nigeria, and Yoshua Shing of Vanuatu.
Boll took to social media to give thanks to his compatriots for what he described as “perhaps the highlight of my career.” The Opening Ceremony will be Friday evening at 7:30P ET/6:30 CT on NBC and streaming live on NBCOlympics.com.
