BOSTON (WHDH) - A local burger chain is at odds with a national burrito chain over a branding issue.

Tasty Burger, which has multiple locations in Boston and Cambridge as well as Washington D.C., says that Chipotle’s latest foray into the burger market is “unmistakably similar” to its own brand.

Chipotle’s upcoming burger chain, set to be called “Tasty Made,” features a logo that is similar in some ways to the Tasty Burger logo.

“This recent development left us no choice but to immediately send a Cease & Desist Letter to notify Chipotle of our trademark rights,” Tasty Burger CEO David DuBois said in a statement. “Unfortunately, Chipotle has nonetheless issued press releases and engaged in a media campaign to promote their new “Tasty Made” burger restaurants since receiving this Letter.”

Tasty Burger emphasizes that the restaurant has no association or affiliation with Chipotle and says that several major Chipotle locations are close to Tasty Burger locations, including one in which the two chains share a landlord.

“It would be reasonable to assume that they have seen our signage,” the company said in the statement.

Tasty Burger went on to call the dispute with the major national brand a “David and Goliath scenario.”
