NASHUA, N.H. (WHDH) — The city of Nashua, New Hampshire is facing tough questions after it was revealed taxpayers footed the bill for employee lunches.
The Department of Public Works said between August and November employees racked up a bill of more than $1,400 at “Sausage King.” The city said a former high level employee authorized the purchases. The business owner said the workers were working outside his building at the time and he just gave them the fuel they needed to get the job done.
“Whether they were permitted to do that, I can’t speak on policy of the city. What I know is when guys came in they were happy they were being provided a mean,” said Sausage King owner, Dave Manganello.
The Mayor of Nashua released a statement that said: It is always disappointing when a member of the staff placed in a position of trust and authority uses poor judgment. Though there is no evidence of criminal behavior, the expenditure of these funds in the manner in which they were spent was clearly not in keeping with the intent for which they were appropriated.”
