PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A technical survey is beginning at the minor league baseball stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to explore possible future uses of the site.
Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien said engineers are doing ground borings and collecting data to determine the stability of the site. The McCoy stadium was built in the 1940s on wetlands.
The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation is funding the geotechnical survey with a $60,000 grant.
This would have been the last season the Red Sox Triple-A affiliate club played at the McCoy Stadium in Rhode Island, but the minor league canceled its season due to the coronavirus pandemic at the end of June.
The PawSox are scheduled to move to a stadium still under construction in Worcester, Massachusetts, for the 2021 season.
In April, the city put out a request for proposals for developing the stadium after the PawSox departure, and received six bids, the Providence Journal reported.
