WELLESLEY, Mass. (WHDH) — Saturday night a young driver was visiting a friend when he crashed into a telephone pole and his car erupted in flames.
Police say the man was unfamiliar with the area and was looking at his GPS when a deer ran in front of the car. The driver then swerved to avoid the animal but crashed into a telephone pole.
He was able to get out of the vehicle without serious injury.
"Everybody is safe including the person who hit the pole so that's really what we want. The houses are fine so that's the best case scenario under these circumstances," Peter Thibault, a neighbor, said.
Neighbors said when they went outside after the crash what they saw was abnormal for the quiet neighborhood.
“Unbelievable, it’s something you don’t see very day especially on Suffolk Road,” Thibault said.
Police say the driver was not under the influence at the time of the crash. He was hospitalized but has since been released.
