A Tennessee bride and her new groom took a detour while going to their reception.

While still in her wedding dress, the bride, who is also an EMT, sprang into action when a member of her bridal party got into a car accident.

Sarah Ray and her husband Paul took all of the normal pictures on their big day with bridesmaids, groomsmen, kissing and cutting the cake, and then there was one more, of the bride coming to the rescue.

Sarah’s grandmother, grandfather and father got into a car accident on the way to the reception.

Their car was totaled and the call came in just as the newlyweds were about to make their way across town for the wedding reception.

“We didn’t know if anybody was hurt or how badly they were hurt,” Sarah said. “The first thing I did was hop in the back of the ambulance with my grandmother to check on her; she was there with the paramedic and the EMT that responded.

Sarah’s mother saw an opportunity, and took the photo, which has now gone viral, reaching 1.4 million views on Facebook.

“A lot of people have used the word hero when talking about the story, and I don’t like it,” Sarah said. “I don’t feel that I was being heroic in any way. It’s just my family was in an accident. I need to make sure that they were there, and it just so happens that I’m a paramedic and that I was in my wedding dress, and that’s all there is to it.”

Sarah’s grandmother and grandfather had to stay at the hospital, but are going to be fine. Sarah’s father was injured but went to the reception, making it in time for the father-daughter dance.

Several guests and members of the bridal party are also EMTs and they also responded to the crash.

One of them, a groomsmen, was right behind the crash when it happened and he was the first to respond.
